Who's body is it?

I was thinking last night that I still may not be truly balancing!  Thinking about Real dedicated time Spiritually.

Then today, with Bible open near my Computer where I blog.  I thought of the story of Daniel.

When my kids were little we had a series of Children's bible stories.  One was of Daniel as a boy (oh my am I sorry I don't have those books to pass on to my Grand kids... and I can't find anything comparable to them- I've looked).

When Daniel as a boy was taken captive (as a Slave) by King Nebuchadnezzar's armies.

As the story goes the King ordered to have some of the Jewish Youths of Royal Family taught the Chaldean language and literature.  Daniel was one of the choosen ones.  And guess who his friends were that were also chosen: Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego (their Babylonian names)

(A real chilling Sunday school story about these 3 friend of Daniel   being thrown into a fiery furnace because of their dedication to the Lord...  Oh, how I Loved the felt board they used in  Sunday School in those day's.... ahhh such memories).  Well, any way

The story is about Daniel choosing to Honor his Lord by not defiling his BODY!  He asked to not eating  the Meats (not kosher) and drinking the  Wine that was offered by the King.

Read the story yourself....

Daniel 1:11-21

11 Daniel then said to the guard whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego   12 "Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink.13 Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food, and treat your servants in accordance with what you see." 14 So he agreed to this and tested them for ten days.

15 At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food. 16 So the guard took away their choice food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead.
17 To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning. And Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds.
18 At the end of the time set by the king to bring them in, the chief official presented them to Nebuchadnezzar. 19 The king talked with them, and he found none equal to Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego; so they entered the king's service. 20 In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king questioned them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his whole kingdom.

I know, I keep on harping on this over and over and over again
OUR lives are all about BALANCE!

How can we neglect our Spirit?
The only part of us that is eternal
The only part of us that is directly connected to our Creator

When we make the choice to
HONOR our body
(which is honoring our Creator) we are rewarded and blessed.
We are successful in making the right choices because we desire
the right things in our life.

When you believe this (when it becomes rooted in your mind)
When you start putting your thoughts into actions
When you actions are powered by your spiritual strength
YOU WILL HAVE HEALTH and WELLNESS on a whole new level

I will make a commitment to myself to be more thoughtful
and to spend more effort and time on my spiritual walk

I will Balance myself  so I will not  fall

Salute!  To your Health and Wellness

How can you expect other's to love you when you don't love yourself .
When you love yourself you TAKE CARE of yourself.

It's your own Reality Show - Who's watching?

How would you behave if you had a camera on you following you around all day?

I thought about this when reading in Zechariah about "Angels".  The Bible speaks about Angels watching over us.... Yikes, then we ARE being watched.

Psalm 91:11-12

11For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
12They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone

But if you can't get your arms around the "Angel" thing.... I think you can imagine a film crew following you around and recording your every move.  No, they can't capture your thoughts unless you talk to yourself as I do.  Yes, I do.... and proud of it!  It's very therapeutic for me to HEAR with my own ear's whats happening in my head.  It can be at times frightening.  It definitely puts me in check on what I'm thinking about.

Yes, they are watching.... eeewwwwww
"I believe"!  Because the Bible says so

Ok, then move on to the belief that "Jesus" is with you in every step of your day.

DAHHH  the point is this:

Are we being responsible with
W O R D S and T H O U G H T S
matching our A C T I O N S?

Do our actions match up with our Words?   If someone were to start a discussion about Dieting, what would you say.  I bet you would, like most of us, you have your take on HOW TO DIET.

Yet,  When you last looked into the mirror and sighed because your not happy with your weight..... DO YOU GET IT!

You know what to do and how to do it but, YOUR ACTIONS do not match your WORDS.

Why?

Thank you for asking!  I'll tell you why.

Because your NOT BALANCED!

We live in a physical and spiritual world.
OH, YES we do live in a spiritual world too.
Of course, because we are Body, Mind and S P I R I T.

We "war" against ourselves because we do not balance our Mind, Body and Spirit.

This is why our mind says "I know how to be healthy"  but our body reflects poor eating choices.  And our Spirit gets ignored.

We become T O X I C
 when our
 body, mind and spirit
are not connected and in HARMONY.

Enough (in Italian that would be "BASTA")  oh, there you go thinking of food.  I said Basta with a "B" not "P"  like in  Pasta!  hahahahah

Words Words Words - Nothing but words

Set the tone for the day - usher in a breeze of success with YOUR WORDS!

I just cringe when I hear someone say
"I have a headache" or "I'm getting a cold"  or "I'm sick"

It may be true that you feel sick, or your getting a  headache or your developing  cold symptoms

PLEASE:

Don't Speak words that state you are accepting and inviting sickness or illness.

Your Mind hears what your saying.
It will respond when you speak the words
"I HAVE"
"I'M GETTING"
"I AM"

Here is my suggestion - TELL YOUR BODY what you want it to be and DO!  Your words are powerful!

Say:

"I am fighting a headache"
"I'm fighting of a cold"
"I feel great, I feel good, I feel wonderful"

NO MATTER how your "F E E L I N G " Speak what you want to be!

This is all about Exercising your MIND!   Feeding your thought life words that are uplifting, life giving, positive.... nutrition for your mind.

In the world of Balance you'll also want to do the following when "fighting off  aches, pains or illness":

Besides feeding your mind  "Nutritious thoughts"
when developing symptoms of illness, feed your body directly:
i.e.  for headache symptoms one of the culprits is dehydration
i.e.  for cold / flu symptoms your immune systems compromised - try Emergen C Packet
        (check with your Doctor fist)
i.e. for Just not feeling well symptoms - you may be starting to fight off an illness So - Stay off the
sugars which reduce your immune system.  Chicken soup is an amazing for it's antibiotic properties,
   Drink plenty of water.   REST!
(Just examples.... )

My recipe for the beginning's of flu symptoms (check with your Doctor before trying this)
At the on-set of a scratchy throat, achy body....
Take 2 Bayer aspirins and drink 6-8 glasses of  a juice that you like (100% juice).
Then Speak the Words
"I'm fighting this and I'm NOT going to get sick"
"I don't accept getting sick"
"Greater is He that is in my than He that is in the World"... etc.
Get a good nights sleep (another topic)
Ask and Thank God for your healing

This also works for body aches and pain...
B A L A N C E
Talk with the Lord (some call that prayer)... read the Instruction Manual for Your Body "The Bible"  and Detox your Mind and Spirit.  Are you dealing with the stress of hurt, unforgiveness, anger.. disappointment, sadness, fear?

Your thought life affects your HEALTH!
It can go either way.... your thoughts make you sick or make you healthy.

My favorite, most favorite scripture verse:

Proverbs 17:22

22A merry heart doeth good like a medicine:
but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

Even if your dealing with an illness for day's doing the above will keep you in
peace and speed up your healing.

Salute!  To your Health and Wellness

ps
Instead of saying "I AM so stressed"  say  "I'm being challenged and I can do it"

Reminder on Day 5 (21 day journey to Health and Wellness)

  • Wake up and as you open your eye's PUT ON A SMILE!  (message to brain that your happy)
  • Stretch while in bed and speak words (out loud or to yourself) of Thanks giving - At least 3 things to be thankful for: i.e.  You woke up! could be one

  • Do your thing and then weigh your self - ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Fix a pitcher of Water for the Day  (1/2 your weight in oz) and add a squeeze of lemon - Goal Setting

  • As you make your choices for eating throughout the day - Choose Life giving foods that are full of Nutrition and fiber.... Try to avoid foods that come in a box, bag or can - I said "Try"

Now.... 15/15/15  today and every day to bring balance to your life

15 minutes of feeding your Spirit :  Read the Bible (Your instruction manual from your Creator)
choose a scripture for the day that you can quote that brings you inspiration, focus, purpose, strength
Actually talk with your Creator!  He actually created you for his pleasure and Loves You
Actually Listen!  that's all  "BE STILL and Know that He is God and wants to bless you"

15 minutes of feeding your Body:  Exercise your muscles (your heart is a muscle)...  3 to 4 times
a week this should be increased to 30-45 minutes.  BUT every day  15 minutes!  Think
about this when your sitting in a stupor watching the TV -  Honestly, Respect your body.

15 minutes of feeding your Mind:  Journalize!  Journal your thoughts.  Get a hold of unresolved
feelings, get in touch with why you think the way you do.    When you have a negative thoughts enter
your mind, Get a hold of that thought , evaluate it:  Is it true?  Is it based in Fear or Love?   Detox your
mind is as important as to detox your body and spirit.  A journal is the ultimate expression of self help.

Set your short and long term goal - make your list to keep in an obvious spot to help you stay on task
(some ideas to guide you)
Set your  goal for your Body:  weight, physical strength, calorie/carb intake....
Set your goal for your Mind:   self improvement
Set your goal for your Spirit:   closer more intimate relationship with your creator

Fill your Mind, Body and Spirit with wholesome, truthful, healthy, positive   FOOD and EXERCISE

B A L A N C E  your life and you will find Health and Wellness

Stress and Health go together like Bread and Butter

Stress and Health

Kind of like Bread and Butter.... They just seem to go together.

Last night I picked up my book by Dr. Caroline Leaf (Dr. Caroline Leaf is a brain and learning specialist from South Africa.)   Her book  is a "detox" manual that describes the anatomy of a thought and the influence it has over emotions and attitudes. The Mind Body Connection that has been proven scientifically!  That is what I love hearing.  Proof that most illness's are "in your head"..... but that doesn't make them less real.  Sickness caused from an unhealthy thought life.

Scientific proof that  Chronic Stress  can  also cause weight gain  as well as Cardiovascular disease and many other diseases.  Cardiovascular Disease (CVA) is still the NUMBER ONE KILLER for both Men and Women.

Balance:   An illness can not be evaluated and treated without consideration of the "WHOLE PERSON"- Spiritual, Physical and Mental

Tough act for me as a Registered Nurse as I'm talking with  patients.  I would love to ask a patient when triaging symptoms "so, are you mad at someone... any unforgiveness in heart?"  Ha.... I'd like to see my Health Care Organization add that into their triage protocols.  Yet, I hear my patients express current stresses, disappointments... hopeless.... yet my scope of practice doesn't allow me to further the discussion.  They don't need a Psychosocial  referral they just need BALANCE.

Getting back to what I was reminded of in my reading last night was the relationship between stress and weight management (or lack of).  It's the Holiday's!  Ooo lala  I love this time of year.

However:

"The holiday season can be a challenging time of year," said David Shern, Ph.D., president and CEO of Mental Health America. "Being aware of stressors and taking steps towards managing them is essential to making the holiday season healthy. Neglecting them, on the other hand, can abate a person's well-being and overall health."

SOURCES OF HOLIDAY STRESS

holiday stress causes

It isn't coincidence that "flu season" is during the Holiday's.  Yes, it's about change in weather... but Peoples immune systems are so OVERTAXED during this time of year it's pathetic.

SIDE NOTE:
Flu Shot?  Well, my Health Organization says .... absolutely get it.  I'll leave that one alone since NO ONE asked ME.  But, I will say the NUMBER ONE way to prevention for Flu season is to TAKE CARE OF YOU.  Washing hands is all about NOT TOUCHING YOUR FACE, Eye's and especially the NOSE with hand's that have come in contact with the Flu Virus.  DON'T TOUCH YOUR FACE!  Even though you've washed your hands a million times.  Use a Kleenex to to your nose when it itches (and it does during the change in seasons).

"Basta"  enough....  back again to what I was going to blog on

Stress and weight.

Stress during holidays and Weight Management

Stressful Holidays and putting on Weight

ahhhhhhh   getting fat during the holidays and crying in the dressing room when your looking for a party dress.

Ok, here is how Stress causes weight gain - ****

In trying to keep this short and simple I've left out the detail: (google it, ok)
All Stress is rooted in Fear (remember I said only all emotions are rooted in either Fear or Love)

We all need some stress and our body has a natural way of reacting (healthy)

For instance, if out of the corner of your eye you saw something moving on the ground ... "it's a rattlesnake" your body  reacts.  Not that you've been struck with a bite and venom is causing the reaction.  It's a reaction from your MIND processing eminent danger.  Your body is reacting to the "emotional stress" of the situation.
Heart, Lungs, Liver, Kidneys, Vessels and Arteries, Adrenal Glands, Kidneys... all start reacting and are producing a chemical chain of events ( releasing a Hormone ACTH.). "Flight or Fight" response.

Then when the snake is removed, your heart begins to  slow down but still beats strongly, your blood sugar has risen, and your blood has rushes away from the stomach. Fats have been released into the blood stream.    All a normal response and no harm to your body at this point.  Your body has a natural "feedback loop" to accommodate for this response and to bring you back to a normal state.

The bodies "feedback loop system" is  a part  of the bodies "homeostasis" which in turn is a chemical and metabolic balance that your body needs to function properly.   "The feedback loop" ensures your liver and kidneys filter and remove toxic waste from this event.

However, here is where the problem can begin

If your body stays under the constant barrage of negative stimulation (stress) then the toxic waste begins to build up  causing illnesses.

You may begin to feel vague symptoms.  You may not be sick enough to stay in bed, but you no longer wake up in the morning energized and motivated.  You join the people - the vertically ill who walk around feeling as if something is not quite right and have multiple complaints.  You go to the Doctors asking for test to find out what is wrong.  You've develop vague aches and pains in places you never felt before,  your memory slips... you've developed chronic health problems... and  your now asking to see a specialist to find out what is wrong with you. Your getting mad at the Doctor and say "what's wrong with me, and don't tell me it's all in my head"

I see it every day.  And it grieves me.
It's a cycle:  The Mind (thoughts) causing body problems (illness, aches and pains) that affects the mind (thoughts and emotions)... around and around it goes.

Side Note: 20% of illness/disease are NOT rooted in thoughts, but Thoughts  do affect 100% of all illness/disease's.

The "fear hormone"  that is a neuropeptide  ACTH.  It's released by the pituitary gland.
Once again, these are needed hormones  serve their purpose.  But, if they are continually released in your system they begin to wreak havoc on your health, in body and mind.

ACTH triggers the adrenals to release  corticosteroids.   .

Cortisol causes blood sugar levels to rise and triglycerides and cholesterol to increase in the blood stream.
**** Causing the body to gain weight.
It also depletes the bones of vital minerals (osteoporosis) ... and your brain (dendrites) shrink and can all together die (dementia).

Proverbs 15:30

30 A cheerful look brings joy to the heart,

and good news gives health to the bones.

This verse it talking about our thought life!

Yada Yada Yada...... I'll stop now... I pray you get the point.

Ummmm you want to to say it again with me out loud!

B A L A N C E

Your Body, Mind an Spirit are CONNECTED and unless balanced these
you F A L L down and go boom and get hurt.

there, I said it in 3rd grader language.

That Cortisol hormone when "not in balance" is why people get the "Michelin tire"  for a waist.

 It's called "metabolic syndrome": (www.americanheart.org)

The metabolic syndrome is characterized by a group of metabolic risk factors in one person. They include:
Abdominal obesity (excessive fat tissue in and around the abdomen)
Atherogenic dyslipidemia (blood fat disorders — high triglycerides, low HDL cholesterol and high LDL cholesterol — that foster plaque buildups in artery walls) Strokes
Elevated blood pressure - High Blood Pressure
Insulin resistance or glucose intolerance (the body can’t properly use insulin or blood sugar) Type 2 Diabetic
Prothrombotic state (e.g., high fibrinogen or plasminogen activator inhibitor–1 in the blood)
Proinflammatory state (e.g., elevated C-reactive protein in the blood) HEART ATTACK

Take responsiblity for your BODY -
Geeze louise

When you decide that your HEALTH is more important than your LOOKS.... You'll stick to changing your lifestyle.  TRUE!  Isn't it true that it takes a diagnosis of Diabetes or a tumor  get people  serious about their health.... when they think they may die they seek change.

Yes, we all want to be a "picture" of health... trim and slim.
Thank God we can't wear our Lab results on our forehead for everyone to see. OUCH!
Can you imagine a sign on someone's forehead:
I've got a Fatty Liver
My BMI is >30
I have Fat clogging my Arteries

All of this Blog for this....

T H I N K  with your brain NOT your Appetite:

When your carrying the world on your shoulders
it's hard to even walk each day under that burden...
Give it all to the LORD and then you can RUN.....   Your Body will thank you.
